UPDATE: The bill failed to pass in the Senate. Two Republicans voted with the Democrats against the bill. They are: Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). Only three Democrats voted with the Republicans to pass this life-saving legislation. They are: Joe Manchin (D-W. Virginia); Bob Casey Jr. (D-PA) and Joe Donnelly (D-Indiana.)
As I write this, the Senate is in session and in debate on The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (S. 2311) the humane legislation that would end abortion after the point at which unborn babies can feel pain. Due to advancements in neonatal science, this has been proven to be at 5 months post-conception, or even earlier.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) gave a stirring statement, in which he provided a short history of how abortion came to be a choice in the United States, and how we share that honor with countries like China, North Korea and Vietnam. He mentioned how abortion had its origins in the eugenics movement; how Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood was a spokesperson for the Ku Klux Klan.
In fact, Sanger mentioned this in her 1938 autobiography, and here is the quote:
"Always to me any aroused group was a good group," Sanger writes, "and therefore I accepted an invitation to talk to the women's branch of the Ku Klux Klan at Silver Lake, New Jersey, one of the weirdest experiences I had in lecturing."
Sanger also had disdain for those who are impoverished, underprivileged and disabled.
Today, 60 million babies have been murdered. In late term abortions, the pain is unspeakable and cruel. Unborn babies can feel the agonizing pain of being torn apart in the womb, and ruthless back alley “doctors” like Kermit Gosnell continue to kill babies after birth if they happen to survive a very late term abortion. Dangerous mills continue to operate legally without oversight or regulations.
The bill to end abortions after babies feel pain passed in the House of Representatives in October 2017. Only three Democrats voted for the bill, with 189 voting against it. Last week, on the same day as the March for Life, only six Democrats voted to pass the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, with 183 voting against it.
That bill passed only because all the Republicans voted for it. That bill would make it a criminal act to kill any baby that survived a botched abortion, and the abortionist would be charged with murder. The House Democrats voted against it.
If the House Democrats could not agree to stop the murder of babies that survive abortion, there is no way Senate Democrats will be willing to make abortions illegal after 20 weeks on the basis of the baby feeling pain. With a slim Republican majority in the Senate it seems unlikely this bill will pass, and it will be interesting to see how the Republicans vote on this bill.
Senate Democrats today are repeating the same lies they told 20 years ago, when the debate was about partial birth abortion. Their arguments ignore current neonatal science. It is about a woman's right to privacy; a woman's choice, a woman's health care decision. I am hearing how this is a "right-wing" issue. One Senator went so far as to say that this legislation is cruel, because it does not consider the woman's needs.
There is not one word about how the unborn baby suffers during a late term abortion, or how neonatal science has changed the argument in favor of the pro-life movement. The Senators who vote against this humane legislation are the cruel ones.
